Lineage 2 Coming to Mobile Thanks to Netmarble

As part of the Nexon vs NCsoft drama earlier this year, NCsoft bought a 9.8% stake in fellow Korean studio Netmarble. While the move was originally regarded as a strategy to block a hostile takeover by Nexon, the hastily arranged partnership has begun to bare some fruit. The first successful game from the partnership was Marvel Future Fight, a mobile RPG with brawler style gameplay.

Soon you'll be able to do this on your iPhone!

Now the duo have announced Project S which involves porting the classic MMORPG Lineage 2 to mobile platforms. First released in 2003 and now nearly 12 years old, the game still has a modest following, especially in Korea. Project S is in line with NCsoft's plan of transitioning to mobile and will mean all three games in the Lineage franchise will have a mobile presense. A mobile app version of the original Lineage was released back in March 31, 2014 and the upcoming Lineage Eternal (aka Lineage 3) is scheduled to launch with cross platform right out the gate.

Here's the latest trailer for Lineage 2, the PC version that is. It remains to be seen whether the mobile version will offer true cross platform play, or just a companion app with complementary rewards.
