Smite Is Coming To Steam

After Global Agenda made a splash as the first free-to-play MMO on Steam, with Tribes: Ascend using Steam as a primary distribution platform, as well, many were confused about HiRez's insistence that Smite would never be on Steam. Testimonies indicate that even requests sent last year were met with responses similar to "it will never happen." A quote from a previous interview with PCGamesN states that "Steam free-to-play games have a discovery problem," likely referring to the time that Global Agenda and Tribes: Ascend spent in the Steam free-to-play section. This was long thought to be the reason that HiRez weren't even willing to attempt to put the game on Steam, even going so far as to release it on Xbox One first.

However, now, in two days, Smite is coming to Steam. Reasons for this change of heart have not yet been released. Perhaps it is to coincide with the launch on Xbox One. Most players are jumping to the conclusion that Smite's playerbase is slowly dying, although it is hard to say. Does Smite need an injection of players or have HiRez simply ended their anti-Steam tirade?
