Smilegate was founded by Kwon Hyukbin in June 2002 and is currently based in Pankyo, South Korea. The company is known for developing CrossFire, which was initially released in Korea in 2007 and was later released in China and Japan, generating nearly $1 Billion in sales in 2008. They then partnered with various gaming companies around the world to release CrossFire in North America, UK, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Russia, making CrossFire one of the most played FPS games in the world with more than six million players worldwide. Following the success of CrossFire the company developed a host of other online games including other FPS games, fighting games, and MMORPGs which earned them numerous awards in the gaming industry. The company then ventured into mobile game development and went on to create new and exciting titles that players can enjoy while on the go. Smilegate partnered with Korean game developer Gamesoma Ltd. in 2014 and invested $112 million in mobile game developer SmileToz, another Korean game company. The company currently services 80 countries across the globe with over 500 million subscribers worldwide.
