Overview

H1Z1 Overview

H1Z1 is a unique zombie-themed survival game with an emphasis on survival, rather than just mindless PvP (though there are PvP servers!). Hop onto a server, find some scrap metal, craft a spear, and fend off zombies while trying to gather enough resources to build a compound. H1Z1 is set in a large, persistent world that supports thousands of players. At times, it's easier to find resources by killing other players than trying to scavenge your own, but those looking for a more tame PvE experience can enjoy the game's PvE servers. There's strength in numbers, so roll with friends or make allies quickly, as death means a loss of items.

H1Z1 features numerous PvP-focused mods as well, one popular example being the "Battle Royale" mod where players fight to be the last man standing.

H1Z1 Key Features:

  • Good Crafting System – craft weapons and structures to survive against the zombies and scavengers.
  • Choose PvP or PvE Servers players can choose whether or not they want to fight other players while trying to survive.
  • Giant and Persistent Worlds – play on huge maps with various other people and scavenge your way through the game.

Development History / Background:

H1Z1 was developed by the California-based Daybreak Game Company, formerly known as Sony Online Entertainment, and powered by their in-house developed Forgelight engine. H1Z1 was one of the first survival-themed Zombie MMOs to launch and was inspired by the popularity of DayZ. The game's name is derived from an internet hoax about the H1N1 flu mutating into the new H1Z1 virus that brought the dead back to life. Development for H1Z1 was officially announced on April 9, 2014 after John Smedley, president of Daybreak Games, teased an upcoming new MMO. H1Z1 is a free-to-play game, but those who wanted to play before official release had to pony up $19.99 for "early access." Early access for H1Z1 launched on January 15, 2015.
