Warhammer 40K: Dark Nexus Arena Overview

Warhammer 40K: Dark Nexus Arena is a unique take on the MOBA genre. The goal of each game is to reach 100 points before the enemy team; players earn points for their team by killing enemies veterans, taking down towers, and killing neutral jungle creeps. This makes each round more action-oriented, as kills are the name of the game. The game officially shut down on March 31, 2016. It never launched beyond Early Access.

Warhammer 40K: Dark Nexus Arena Key Features:

  • Skill Based Combat – Players move with WASD controls similar to Smite. Abilities are all skillshots which can be dodged with proper play.
  • 4v4 Gameplay 4v4 MOBA gameplay with jungle camps, towers, and more. Set in the legendary Warhammer 40K universe.
  • Shorter Matches – a typical full round of gameplay takes less than 30 minutes! Quite a bit less than Dota 2 or League of Legends.
  • Deathmatch Style Gameplay – win by reaching 100 points first. Points are earned by killing enemies, taking down towers, and killing jungle camps.
  • Warhammer Universe – heroes in the game are called "Veterans." Play as Orks, Space Marines, Tau, and more.

Development History / Background:

Warhammer 40K: Dark Nexus Arena was developed by Vancouver, Canada based Whitebox Interactive. The game is officially licensed from GamesWorkshop and is the first MOBA to be developed using the popular Warhammer 40K IP. Development for Warhammer 40K: Dark Nexus Arena began in 2014 after Whitebox Interactive was formed. The game was officially announced to the world on February 26, 2015 and Early Access/Alpha beta began in mid-2015. Since its announcement, the developers have received some flak about conflicting lore issues. Many hardcore Warhammer 40K fans don't like seeing Orks fighting alongside Space Marines for example. The game is slated to launch with Orks, Tau, and Space Marines, but additional races will be added after launch.

Dark Nexus Arena never managed to officially launch beyond its Steam early access. It shut down on March 31, 2016.
