Best MMO Gaming Mice

Over the past several years we have seen a boom in high end computer peripherals. Ever since Das Keyboard help popularize mechanical keyboards back in 2008, there has been a proliferation of high end (and high priced) keyboards, mice, headsets, and even mouse pads. While many of these products offer little beyond RGB 'gamer' aesthetics, those of us who spend the majority of our time in front of a PC owe it to our selves to sift through them for high quality, functional, and comfortable products. We'll start by looking at mice.

1) Razer Naga Chroma

Many MMORPGs today require a dozen or more hotkeys. It can be tedious to bind so many skills to the keyboard, mapping alt-commands and so on. Well Razer has the solution to this quandary. The Razer Naga has an impressive 12 buttons organized in a 3x4 grid on the side of the mouse. While this does make the mouse extremely bulky, it alleviates a ton of keyboard headaches. With 12 different hotkeys within easy reach of your thumb, skill rotations become a breeze. The bundled software can also be used to create macros outside of gaming. Advanced users can map keys to open new browser tabs, close tabs, launch certain programs, and so on. The Razer Naga comes in Left hand and wireless variants. There's even a MOBA version that includes a radial wheel on the side rather than a grid. I've personally used the Razer Naga for World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV and I can safely say for MMORPGs, it's the best mouse on the market. While the additional side buttons don't serve any practical purpose outside of MMORPGs, they're amazing for MMOs.

Pros: Access to 12 buttons with your thumb alone. Wireless, MOBA, and Left-Handed variants. 16,000 DPI sensor.

Cons: Bulky, not particularly attractive. Grid button layout lacks ergonomic and aesthetic appeal.

2) Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum

Clocking in at over $100, the G900 Chaos Spectrum is Logitech's flagship mouse in their gamer lineup. The G900 boasts the industry's most accurate optical sensor (PMW3366) which allows it to match wired mice even while in wireless mode. I currently use this mouse and can confirm that it is just as accurate and responsive as any wired mouse I have ever used. I find the mouse visually pleasing, at least after disabling the RGB logo. Certain design choices may displease some users. The mouse wheel is louder than any mouse I've encountered, but gives off a satisfying tactile feel when used. The industrial look and ambidextrous design of the mouse are added bonuses.

Pros: Seamless wireless response rate. Industrial, ambidextrous design. Tactile button and mouse wheel feedback.

Cons: High price. Mouse wheel louder than expected. Firmware updates require mouse + dongle connected to computer.

3) Razer DeathAdder Elite

The workhorse of the gaming mouse world. The Razer DeathAdder has around for a long time and continues to get better and better. The DeathAdder is a large mouse, but very comfortable. It has a 16,000 dpi optical sensor and some of the most durable mouse switches around, built to last for 50 million clicks! Newer variants like the Elite come with full RGB support if you're into that sort of thing. The lights can be disabled through the Razer gaming software included with the mouse. My only gripe with the DeathAdder is the plastic and rubber build. After prolonged use, the rubber on the sides tend to either fall off or accumulate gunk. That hasn't stopped MMOs HQ from continuing to use them. We have at least 4 of these in the office and it's currently Omer's favorite mouse!

Pros: 16,000 DPI sensor. Highly durable mouse switches. Braided cable. Comfortable for all grip types.

Cons: May be too large for small hands. Rubber on sides accumulates dead skin, peels off after prolonged use.

4) Corsair Gaming M65 Pro

This gaming mouse bills it self as a FPS mouse, but I found it to be just as functional for MMOs. It doesn't have quite as many programmable buttons (8) as some of the other mice on this list, but makes up for it in other ways. The mouse looks and feels amazing. The weight tuning features allow you customize the weight and center of gravity of the mouse. Combined with the aluminum frame, the Corsair Gaming M65 Pro is a superb choice for gamers of any genre.

Pros: Aluminum body. Weight and center-of-gravity tweaking options. Very high build quality.

Cons: Very heavy by default, make sure you can handle it! Wide shape may make it uncomfortable for palm grippers.

5) SteelSeries Rival 500

If you're a hotkey-heavy gamer who just can't stand the obese Naga, the SteelSeries Rival 500 may be the mouse for you. Rather than slapping all the buttons on the side in a dial pad formation, the Rival has 'only' 6 buttons on the side in a radial style with three other buttons placed on top of the mouse. Pictures of the mouse make it clear that it is a far sleeker alternative, though that comes at the expense of a few buttons.

Pros: Sleek design (at least for a MMO mouse) Tactile feedback. 15 programmable buttons. 16,000 CPI sensor.

Cons: Still a bit bulky. Disconnect issues on some models.
