Guide: How to Play MapleStory 2 in English from Outside Korea

Fan of the original MapleStory and interested in playing MapleStory 2 but don't want to wait for it to launch in the West? Well, here's a short guide to help you do just that. The process is surprisingly easy and you don't even need to use a VPN. This guide will help you install and play Nexon's MapleStory 2 in English from outside of South Korea.

Step 1) Get a Nexon Korea Account (Get one here)

Even though Nexon's games are free to play, acquiring a Nexon Korea account from outside of South Korea isn't easy as you'll need a Korean social security number / Korean phone number to verify your identity. Unless you know someone living in South Korea that's willing to share their account with you, the only way to get one is to just buy a pre-made verified Nexon account. We sell these accounts on MMOs.com, you can buy one from us here.

There is no easy free ways to get an account for Nexon KR. If there was, we'd write a guide on it. We sell QQ Accounts as well, but we also wrote a popular guide on how to get one for free.

Step 2) Download and Install The Game

Just head on over to the official MapleStory 2 website and then hit the giant "Game Start button as shown here":

MapleStory 2 Game Start Guide You'll then be prompted to log in to your account. Type your username and password then hit the sign in button to the right:

MapleStory 2 Log in

You may then be asked to log in again, this time with a captcha code. Just type in your information again:

Now you'll be redirected to the MapleStory 2 homepage and you just need to click the giant Game Start button again, and then you'll be prompted to launch the Nexon Game Manager. Hit Yes as shown here:

Nexon Game Manager MS2

Another window will pop up, just hit yes again:

MapleStory 2 Install Manager

After that, just click the button with the Check mark next to it every time. You'll eventually be prompted to install the game. Once you see the patcher launch, you're good to go. Just wait for the game to install and patch on its own. Clicking the blue button will then launch the game.

MapleStory 2 Patcher

Note: You may need to leave the patcher running over night, as it can take some time to install MapleStory 2, especially since you're downloading from the Korean servers from outside the country. It took me a few hours to download the game from the United States, even with an incredibly fast connection (300 mbps down).

Step 3) Install an English Patch for MapleStory 2

This step isn't required, but if you want to navigate MapleStory 2 easier, you should install an English patch. I use the Ayumilove MapleStory 2 English patch and it works well. Downnload it here. It includes a readme which explains how to play apply the English Patch.

After downloading it move the file and extract it inside your MapleStory 2 date folder (defaults to C:\Nexon\MapleStory2\Data). You can then use the switch.bat file included in the patch to switch between English and Korean. You need to switch to Korean when launching the patcher, then after the patcher is ready to launch the game, switch to English using Switch.bat. Still confused? See this a video guide from the creator of the English patch:

Step 4) Enjoy MapleStory 2!

You're done! Launch the game and enjoy!

Been playing MMOs since I first got my hands on Ultima Online when I was 12 years old. Played so many games from Star Wars Galaxies to MapleStory to DAoC to World of Warcraft. Long time League of Legends player too! I'm also Known as "ReMo" and "Remotay"
