The Weekly Raid: Will Gaming Ever Be In The Olympics?

The Olympics began as an athletic festival to honor Zeus and the gods, and to boast which city-state was the most Greek of the Greeks. People stopped killing each other to see who could out-pankration the other. In the 21st Century the Olympics are a reason to watch anchors become overexcited, and speculate who's on steroids. Will we ever see someone screaming "GET REKT" in an arena, filled with people from around the world, on NBC's monopoly network?

I'm inclined to say "Nope," and I don't think that's wrong either, since I'll draw a line between traditional athletic sports and eSports. Maybe eSports deserves it's own Olympics, and that would be pretty neat.

The Weekly Raid: Will gaming ever be in the Olympics?

From Mega Man II to Ape Escape, I've been playing games for as long as I can remember. I've spent months killing porings in Ragnarok Online and more recently lived a second life in Eve Online. I usually play as gUMBY, gUMBLEoni, or gUMBLes in-game.
