The Korean studio Bluehole, best known as the developers of fantasy MMORPG Tera and Battle Royale kingpin Playerunknown's Battlegrounds have just revealed their next project. Ascent: Infinite Realm (A:IR) is a steampunk inspired fantasy MMORPG with a strong emphasis on aerial combat, war mechs, and airships.
The MMORPG will be published in the West by Kakao Games, of Black Desert Online fame. Perspective players can already sign up on for a chance to win a beta key on the game's homepage. The first beta is planned for the first half of 2018, but that schedule is open to adjustment.
Ascent: Infinite Realm has already had a closed beta test phase in its home market of South Korea, and Kakao has put up a trailer showing some gameplay from that closed beta. While the trailer isn't perfect, the fact that it shows 5 minutes of varied gameplay rather than a minute of CGI animation is a huge positive.
As a huge fan of the Steampunk aesthetic, I have enjoyed MMORPGs like Neo Steam and Allods Online so I'm definitely looking forward to this one!
