Age Of Empires IV Previews New Campaign, New Civilization, And Multiplayer Battles

age of empires iv logo screenshot bannerIt’s been 16 years since the release of the last Age of Empires game and fans are itching to get their hands on Age of Empires IV since the game was first announced in 2017. Age of Empires IV isn’t due to arrive until this fall, but this past weekend’s preview event should give fans a good idea of what to expect from the latest game in the popular classic RTS franchise.

The fan preview video features extended gameplay footage that showcases one of the game’s new single-player campaigns, the new Delhi Sultanate, and multiplayer battles. Up to eight players will be able to engage in real-time multiplayer battles says Relic Entertainment. Each player’s population is capped at 200 units for a total of up to 1600 units in a single battle.

Players can also expect to see the same gameplay mechanics that have been in place for over two decades along with several new key features. These include the addition of siege and fire mechanics, as well as the ability to hide in forested areas and brace against cavalry charges, which adds a whole new layer of complexity to game’s tried-and-tested RTS formula.

“We’ve done a great job capturing the essence of the original games and trying to translate those into a modern context,” said the team. “We’ve created something that players will be able to jump in and recognize, and then it gives them the foundation to explore a lot of new things and find the things that they love. This is our biggest and most ambitious title yet and we can’t wait for you to play it.”

You can watch the full fan preview right after the jump. We’ll keep you posted as soon as a definite release date is announced. More info can also be found on the Age of Empires IV official site.
