An Army Of Fishing Bots Are Wreaking Havoc In New World

As New World turns the page on gold duplication exploits, players have turned to other less risky ways of amassing wealth. Greedy players have once again turned to the age-old practice of botting and have invaded the best fishing spots in Aeternum.

Who cares about fishing, you ask? Well, apparently these bots have made it virtually impossible for real players to fish and are therefore forced to buy much-needed materials from fishing botters.

“There is a fishing bot on my server that sits in the same spot at least 18 hours a day,” wrote one player on Reddit. “[It] has single-handedly destroyed the price of multiple items, ruined fishing on the server, has received hundreds of reports, and still isn't banned.”

Amazon has yet to respond to the new issue and have yet to take action against botters. In the meantime, there are also time-tested ways of dealing with them, such as aggroing mobs and getting them to attack the bots. Another trick, as PCGamer notes, is to build tents in a “U” shape on the bot’s path to trap them.

Bots and automation have always been a problem in any popular MMO, especially ones that have yet to implement measures against them, and New World is no different. Unfortunately, the game’s short history has already been marred by one game-breaking issue after another that players have very nearly run out of patience with the game and especially Amazon.

Update: Amazon Games has provided us with the following statement regarding Bots in New World:

We’re aware of player reports about increased bot activity in New World. Bots pose a persistent challenge for MMOs, and our team has deployed dedicated resources and tooling to identify and combat them. We are committed to continuous improvement in our fight against bots, and yesterday alone, we banned over 7,700 accounts for using bots. Our goal is to ensure New World is fun and fair for all players. We’ll post updates to the New World forums and Twitter as we have them.
