Arma Reforger Launches Into Steam Early Access And Xbox’ Game Preview Program

Arma developer Bohemia Interactive has officially unveiled and soft-launched the next game in the military simulator series – Arma Reforger. As leaked earlier this week, the new game will serve as a bridge between Arma 3 and Arma 4 while the latter is still in development and give modders ample time to create mods using Bohemia’s new Enfusion engine.

Unlike previous games in the series, Arma Reforger is being marketed as a military simulation game rather than a hardcore military simulator. It’s also be the first game in the franchise that will be available on consoles.

“As a standalone installment, Arma Reforger serves a platform for players to enjoy the new capabilities of Enfusion as well as to provide valuable feedback for the ongoing development of Arma 4. Besides this, Arma Reforger hopes to empower Bohemia Interactive's dedicated community of modders with an exciting new suite of integrated, in-house Enfusion tools.”

It will also be the first game in the series that’s set in an alternate version of the 80s, during the final years of the Cold War, instead of the more contemporary time periods of the earlier games. It will feature a new island called Everon that’s inspired by the country of Czechoslovakia. Players will be able to choose from two game modes: Conflict and Game Master. In Conflict, players will be deployed onto the island where they’ll have to work together against Soviet troops while Game Master is a real-time scenario editor that functions much like Arma 3’s Zeus DLC.

The game is now available on Steam Early Access and on Xbox Series X|S via the platform’s Game Preview program for $29.99.

You can find out more about Arma Reforger on the official site and you can also check out the Road to Arma 4 video after the break for a quick look at the game. Also, I’m curious to know how the game functions on the Xbox with a controller. If you’ve tried it, tell us about your experience in the comments section below.
