CD Projekt Red Breaks Promise To Avoid Crunch Culture For Cyberpunk 2077, Orders Mandatory 6-Day Work Week

cyberpunk 2077 mohawk katana bannerThe last few months in the game’s development is usually the time when the whole dev team goes into overdrive, also known as crunch. After being called out for crunch practices, CD Projekt Red execs promised fans last year that they would not be asking their employees to do overtime on Cyberpunk 2077. But as we all know, promises are meant to be broken.

Studio Head Adam Badowski has just ordered mandatory 6-day work weeks for all employees until the game comes out in November. The extra day, of course, will be paid. “I take it upon myself to receive the full backlash for the decision,” Badowski wrote to Bloomberg. “I know this is in direct opposition to what we’ve said about crunch. It’s also in direct opposition to what I personally grew to believe a while back -- that crunch should never be the answer. But we’ve extended all other possible means of navigating the situation.”

CD Projekt Red Chief Financial Officer Piotr Nielubowicz also added that the extra work day will allow the studio to meet the November 19th launch date and make sure that most of the bugs are eliminated prior to the game’s release.
