MMO-Turned-Graphic-Novel Destiny’s Sword Quietly Launches Into Early Access

Late last month, Destiny’s Sword developer 2Dogs Games downgraded the Kickstarted game from the full-fledged MMO that was promised to backers to a single-player graphic adventure game with no announcement or explanation whatsoever from either the studio or the game’s publisher Bonus Stage. That same game has now officially launched into early access on Steam, again without any announcement from either the developer or the publisher.

2Dogs Games touts the early access version as feature complete but plans to add more chapters, items, equipment, and more story content over the next couple of months leading up to the game’s full release in spring 2023. The game is currently on sale at $7.64 until October 24th, at which point it will go back to its original selling price of $8.99.

Both the studio and publisher still haven’t offered an explanation on the sudden genre and gameplay shift. There’s also no launch press release or launch trailer to speak of. The game’s Kickstarter page hasn’t been updated for over two years, there have been no posts on the game’s Twitter page since September, and even the game’s Discord is surprisingly quiet. As of this writing, the Destiny’s Sword has logged a 24-hour and all-time peak player concurrency of just 7 players. That might just be the lowest launch numbers I’ve seen ever.
