Things will be heating up in Dual Universe this spring with the release of the space sandbox MMO’s PvP-centric Athena update. Named after the Greek goddess of war and wisdom, the update will bring “a new tidal wave of conflict that will set Helios ablaze.”

Headlining the update are new resource-generation alien core units which will spawn in PvP zones. Players and organizations will be able to claim these space mining points and must be defended to allow them to continue accumulating resources from the core units. Alien core units will also provide a fresh new challenge for PvP players and reduce pressure on players trying to avoid PvP.

Novaquark is also looking to re-balance PvP in the Athena update by adding stasis weapons and tweaking the behavior of constructs at maximum speed. “With these sweet guns, big armored ships with powerful space engines will no longer have an advantage that allowed them to escape more agile smaller designs,” they explained.

Aside from new PvP content and changes, the update will also introduce a new space map, rendering improvements, enhanced water and flashlight visuals, the Space Market feature, and a fully-revamped First Time User Experience (FTUE).

The Athena update is scheduled to go live at the end of spring. More information can be found on the Dual Universe official site.
