EVE Online’s New Multiple Character Training Prices Draws Flak From Its Players

Over the past few months, CCP Games has been trying to introduce new EVE Online monetization schemes that have repeatedly been shot down by the game’s community. The latest is a new “revitalized” version of the space sandbox MMORPGs Multiple Character Training (MCT) feature.

“When you purchase Multiple Character Training through the EVE Store, you'll receive a certificate that will enable an additional character on that account to train at the same time! This means less time juggling accounts, and training queues, and an easy way to start training the alternative character that you’ve always planned to make.”

As of the latest update, 30-day MCTs are now available in packs of 1, 2, 3, 6, 12, and 24 vouchers, starting at $19.99 for one voucher all the way up to $379 for 24 vouchers. Players, however, were quick to point out that 24 months of Omega subscription only costs $270.99 and that it wouldn’t make sense to purchase an Omega subscription and MCT vouchers at the same time when you can just create two separate accounts with Omega subscriptions and train them at the same time through multi-boxing.

For context, MCTs are usually used by players to farm skill points on an alternate character that can then be extracted and sold for in-game currency.

One theory on the new monetization scheme is that CCP Games wants to push players away from MCTs and have them subscribe instead to boost player concurrency. Whatever CCPs reasons are, it’s definitely not sitting well with its playerbase.
