Hellion To Hit Steam Early Access In January 2017
Zero Gravity announced today that its upcoming multiplayer space survival sandbox game, Hellion, will be launching on Steam Early Access sometime in January 2017. The company also revealed a number of details about the game alongside the announcement. Hellion will take place in the "devastated solar system" of Hellion, "the graveyard of mankind’s first interstellar colony." A million colonists have suddenly awoken to naught but devastation, some of whom turn to scavenging and plundering. As some of those colonists, players must attempt to survive the reality that they've awoken to, but they will also be given a chance to "uncover the truth" behind the colony's destruction.
When players begin the game, only a few "small outposts" and "shuttle crafts that the colonists wake up in" are in working order. If repairs are not made soon, colonists will "run out of air, water, and power." Players must scavenge for the necessary resources and tools outside of the colony.
Zero Gravity is boasting "complex" resource gathering mechanics, a "detailed crafting system," equipment and systems that can be damaged or degrade, "modular and customizable" ships, stations, and equipment that is maintained through "complex maintenance systems," and "an immersive background story."
Zero Gravity Creative Director Marko Smiljanic had the following to say about the announcement.
Hellion is a fusion of survival and space simulation genres that pits players against the deadly environment as well as one another. Set across a single solar system, they will need to survive extreme temperatures, deadly radiation and scavenge for basic resources like air, water, fuel and other items to survive. To discover Hellion’s secrets, players will need to find a spaceship and venture beyond the confines of their station to search for intel, resources and valuable equipment. To do so, they will have to find a way to coexist and cooperate with other players, or at least cooperate until they have outworn their usefulness.
