Lucasfilm Games Announces New Open World Star Wars Game In Partnership With Ubisoft

lucasfilm games logo bannerFollowing the revival of Lucasfilm Games (a.k.a. LucasArts) earlier this week, the studio has just announced a new story-driven, open-world Star Wars game in cooperation with Ubisoft’s Swedish studio, Massive Entertainment.

According to the official press release, the upcoming game will be developed using Massive’s proprietary Snowdrop engine under the direction of Julian Gerighty, director of The Crew and The Division 2. “We’re really excited about an opportunity to work with the team at Massive, led by David Polfeldt and the creative director, Julian Gerighty. We’ve spent almost a year now, working to get to know them and what they want to bring to the table,” says Lucasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly.

As for Electronic Arts, it looks like their 10-year Star Wars exclusivity agreement won’t be getting an extension. Reilly, however, says that the studio will continue to play a big role in the future of the franchise. “We’re really proud of the games we have created with EA,” he says. “We will continue working with them and our relationship has never been stronger. While we may not have a lot of details to share at the moment, we’ve got a number of projects underway with the talented teams at EA.”

Massive’s new Star Wars game will probably launch two years from now which is when EA’s exclusivity agreement ends.
