NC’s plans to transition Blade and Soul to Unreal Engine 4 will apparently be pushing through despite the company’s decision to shut down the Frontier World server in South Korea. The new server launched in February 2020 and was specifically made for Blade and Soul Complete, a UE4 version of the game with the addition of several enhanced features.

Yesterday, NC announced that they will be shutting down the server on May 6, fueling rumors that the UE4 transition is dead in the water. The company, however, recently revealed that the UE4 upgrade will continue with a new Blade and Soul version, dubbed “Taedongrok” which translates to “Birth Rock”.

According to MMOCulture, the new version will feature better graphics compared to Frontier World while maintaining the “bloomy” visuals that the game is known for. The engine upgrade will also improve optimization, shorten loading times, and is expected to reduce the consistent lag plaguing the current version of the game.

The new version will also be updated with new content, including 4-player dungeons and a difficulty system.

The UE4 upgrade is expected to arrive in the South Korean version in June. Check out the videos below for a peek at the improvements coming to the new Blade and Soul version.
