New Survival MMO Pangaea: New World Promises A Unique Apocalypse

Pangaea: New World is an upcoming survival MMO developed by LVR Studio that aims to incorporate RPG elements and an interdependent ecosystem in a post-apocalyptic landscape. The game boasts an enormous world to explore, approximately 90km² (or ~60 miles), and is built on Unreal Engine 4.

Based on the description the game is clearly influenced by single-player apocalyptic series S.T.A.L.K.E.R.; mysterious anomalies decorate the landscape and viscous creatures will pose a threat to players. Survivors will have to band together to survive the harsh world, and each other.

Personally, I find the most interesting facet to be the game's environment: "The backbone of the world of Pangaea: New World is the smart ecosystem that brings logic and structure to the game’s flora and fauna. Kill an animal, and this action might forever affect the population of the world and survival of species." It's reminiscent of Kickstarter backed project Eco, and may signal a new paradigm for survival games.

According to a post on the Steam Greenlight page it will not be released as an Early Access title. But will be available to select players in Closed Beta, inspiring confidence that the project is well-funded and will see fruition as a complete title. It is being developed simultaneously for PC, Mac, PS4, and Xbox One.

The game is slated for release at the end of 2016. Head to the official website to learn more about Pangaea: New World.
