A massive wave of players have flocked to New World over the past few months, presumably in anticipation of the open-world MMORPG’s upcoming Brimstone Sands expansion, resulting in long queues and prompting the addition of new servers. That expansion is now available for testing on the public test realm featuring a new Egyptian-themed desert map and its new puzzle-filled Ennead Expedition.

“Players must challenge the Corrupted Legion head-on and delve into Ancient Ruins where they will face the vigilant Anubian Guardians and solve hieroglyphic puzzles to achieve new power,” said Amazon. “When the sands settle, players will have explored ancient mysteries with Imhotep, defeated powerful Sand demons, and perhaps, if they persist, restored the rightful ruler who can finally bring order and hope to the region after centuries of chaos.”

The developers have also revamped the new player experience with a brand-new storyline and new quests based on player feedback. The early stages of the game now offers more AI variety and improved storytelling with less running back and forth to complete quests. The streamlined newbie questline takes players through each region of Aeternum while introducing them to new quest mechanics including wave events, tracking, puzzles, traversal challenges, dynamic events, and other unique interactions with the game world.

The new Greatsword weapon and new Heartrune Abilities are also now up for testing alongside the new map and new player experience. Details can be found in the latest PTR release notes on the New World official site.
