New World Devs Talk Character Design In The Latest Forged In Aeternum Episode

Amazon Game Studios has rolled out a new episode of its long-running Forged in Aeternum video series that talks about female character design in New World.

In the new video, Game Designer Rachel Barnum, Concept Artist Kiana Hamm, and Associate Art Director get together to offer insight into the process of creating a new female character, starting with the character’s backstory and personality to what they’ll look like and what they’ll be wearing.

The ladies of Amazon also reveal how they use real-world mythology as inspiration in the creation of a new boss, citing the Siren Queen as an example who was based on the infamous Sirens of Greek mythology. They also dive into the Grace O’Malley, the focal point of the game’s upcoming Fellowship & Fire update, and how the pirate queen’s personality was born from sketches as they tried to decide whether she would be more like a navy captain, gunslinger, or guerilla fighter.

On the subject of the next update, it’s now live on the public test realm for testing ahead of its release on March 28th. Fellowship & Fire will mark the start of New World’s first season as Amazon transitions the open-world MMORPG to seasonal content releases. For now, you can learn more about how female come to life in the new developer video below.
