New World Disables Trading Due To A New Exploit, Bans Several Hundred Accounts

Just when we thought we’ve seen the last of economy-breaking exploits in New World a new one popped up just last week. Amazon discovered the new duping exploit last week, prompting the studio to immediately disable player trading and ban players who were caught abusing it.

“We have identified individuals involved in two potential exploits — one a trade exploit, the other an unintended stack of house trophy bonuses resulting in better chances at high gear score items than normally available. The individuals abusing these (a few hundred accounts) have been temporarily banned while we double check our data,” Amazon reported. “We are absolutely taking this extremely seriously.”

The exploit has now been fixed and once they’ve sifted through the banned accounts, those proven to have knowingly abused the exploit will either have the duped items removed or permanently banned. A number of innocent players, however, were inadvertently caught in the net which naturally led to a barrage of complaints and a flood of tickets appealing the ban.

Exploits aside, New World is still gaining popularity following renewed interest in the open-world MMORPG over the past few months. It’s even managed to claw its way up to the 20th spot on Steam’s Most Played Games list this past Sunday with a peak 24-hour concurrency of over 45,000 players.
