Rogue Planet Games has big things planned for PlanetSide 2 this summer as Lead Game Designer Michael “Wrel” Henderson in his latest dev blog.

Following the addition of hundreds of new weapon attachments last month, players can expect to see another round of new features and mechanics added to the MMO shooter over the next few months, including the return of Outfit Wars in Nexus with an option for 1vs1 battles and underwater combat.

“While we're not wholly decided on the scope of the underwater combat yet, we'll be making efforts to expand that,” said Henderson. “The goals would be to add more depth (hah) to water gameplay by giving players reasons to use the water, ways to defend themselves, and make it a bit easier to traverse while still retaining the feel. We'll be introducing our first proper naval vessel as a part of that, which we'll talk about more in the near future.”

The team will also be introducing new quality-of-life features such as item gifting and Garrison Squads which will allow players to automatically form temporary groups with nearby players when attacking or defending a region. They’ll also be making improvements to the Squad Finder system as a whole and will be adding options to disable auto-knife wielding and certain HUD indicators which players have been requesting for a long time now.

The Trident Relays POI will also be revamped with new ramps that will allow players to access the top of the dome to defend against vehicle spawns from attacking factions.

These improvements, along with the new Anti-Material Rifles and new cosmetics, will be making their way into the game as part of May’s big 19-year PlanetSide Legacy update and will be up for testing on the public test server this week. Henderson promises to reveal more details as we move closer to the update’s release.

Meanwhile, the team is currently working to address G15 gateway issues that have been plaguing the game in the past few weeks. While the only apparent fix is to wait for a while and try again, the team says they’ve also implemented a bandaid solution which should significantly reduce G15 issues. They’ve also made routing changes to resolve major connection issues being experienced by Deutsche Telekom ISP subscribers.

More information about the summer updates and the network fixes can be found on the PlanetSide 2 official site.
