Most developers can attest to the fact that development roadmaps are fickle things especially for in-development games. Content and feature releases can get shuffled around or delayed as development progresses and unexpected issues pop up resulting in disappointed players. This is why the Profane dev team has decided to do away with windows and hard dates in their development roadmap in favor of progress bars that the get filled as a certain feature nears release.

“We decided to remove [dates] because it was tough to pinpoint an exact date for features to be ready which led to a constant reordering of the items listed on the roadmap.” explained developer Insane Studios. “This also helps us deliver a better experience for everyone involved: both you, eager to know what’s coming, as well as our team, since we won’t have to give out specific dates and will be able to adjust the roadmap according to any bumps we find along the way.”

As you can see from the updated roadmap above, features that are currently being worked on are highlighted with a blue border while those that have been completed are highlighted with a green border. Note that the blue border might appear or disappear around certain features as the team shifts their focus to other waiting features as needed.

“We hope you enjoy this new model, as it’s meant to be more truthful and transparent with you since it can adapt to unforeseen circumstances that happen during development,” the studio said. “We are SUPER excited to see these bars filling out and we can’t wait to share all the content that we’ll create this year as well.”
