Riot Games Rolls Out Guidelines For Valorant Esports Tournaments

valorant alpha gameplay screen bannerWith Riot Games marketing Valorant as a competitive shooter, we’ll probably be seeing the game enter the eSports scene sometime after its official launch. In anticipation of this, Riot has laid down a number of ground rules for tournament organizers. It includes a requirement that the “Show Blood” option be turned off for all broadcasted eSports tournaments.

Riot has also put a cap on the total value of the prize pool that can be offered by organizers. The total value includes the equivalent cash value of non-cash prizes. The prize pool for small tournaments organized by players, cafes, and local community organizers will be capped at $10,000 USD and $12,000 USD for non-cash prizes with an annual cap of $100,000 USD. Medium-sized tournaments organized by mid-tier businesses, influencers, and eSports organizers will be capped at $50,000 USD and should not exceed $200,000 USD per calendar year. Major tournaments organized by major eSports organizers such as ESL, OGN, and Dreamhack, will not have a prize pool cap and Riot says they may even contribute to the prize pool.

There will also be a limit on the amount of contributions that small tournament organizers can accept from sponsors. The studio also released a list of prohibited sponsors and advertisers. The list includes other video game developers and publishers, video game console manufacturers, gambling organizations and casinos, prescription drugs, tobacco and alcohol products, and pornographic products among others.
