RTX 3090 Graphics Cards Bricked During New World Closed Beta, Preventive Hotfix Released
The New World closed beta is now in full swing and things seem to be going rather smoothly for the testers, except for one teensy little problem with some RTX 3090 cards getting bricked. Apparently, the graphic cards were getting fried because framerates weren’t being capped on the menu screen thereby overloading a few high-end graphics cards.
Amazon Game Studios has since rolled out a patch to cap FPS on the menu screen to ensure that no more cards suffer catastrophic failures.
“We’ve received a few reports of players using high-performance graphics cards experiencing hardware failure when playing New World,” tweeted Amazon. “We have seen no indication of widespread issues with 3090s, either in beta or during our months of alpha testing.”
“The New World beta is safe to play. In order to further reassure players, we will implement a patch today that caps frames per second on our menu screen,” the studio said.
You can also manually set the max FPS cap through the settings menu. Go to Settings > Visuals > Max FPS > then set it to 60 fps.
In other weird New World news, a Twitch streamer was permabanned by milking a cow in-game of all things. AnnieFuschia was enjoying 17th century life in Aeternum when she decided that she wanted to get some milk from a cow. She was rewarded with a bottle of milk for her efforts and, to her surprise, a popup message that read: “Permenant Ban – Your account has been permanently banned. Reason [You have been banned.]”
