Survival MMOARPG Starkeepers Announced At IGN Expo, Launching In 2023

Looks like survival games are making a comeback this year as yet another one was announced during yesterday’s IGN Expo. Developed by multi-national studio Wolfpack Games, Starkeepers is an upcoming survival MMOARPG with a low-poly visual style and Viking-inspired anthropomorphic beasts called Astrals as the main characters.

“Experience an action-packed sandbox MMOARPG and venture into a world of mythological epics ready to unfold. Prove your worth as a Starkeeper, rise against cosmic threats, and restore balance to the Astral Realms.”

Players take on the role of Astrals as they use their magical powers to manipulate space-time and roam the multiverse to thwart cosmic beings and their evil plans. Players will also be able to align themselves with different factions with their own motives and plans for the multiverse. They’ll also be able to build clan fortresses called Starkeeps that they can defend using bulwarks and a variety of weapons, including turrets, mounted guns, and traps.

“Actions have consequences. Both individual and group decisions influence how the narrative unfolds every season,” said Wolfpack. “A dynamic questing system brings back the element of surprise. Set out on common objectives, discover the hidden roads less traveled, or go rogue and dive into the deep end, you chart your own story epic.”

“[Wolfpack Games] aims to fix issues in existing MMOs, and wants to create projects ‘free from unimaginative questing, free from mindless theatrics passing for ‘combat’, free from game economy in uncontrolled spirals, and definitely free from disruptive over-commercialization,’” said IGN.
