Maxis has confirmed that the fifth installment in The Sims franchise, codenamed Project Rene, will have multiplayer features. Unfortunately for those hoping that it will be an MMO of some sort, that’s not going to be the case as confirmed by Game Director Grant Rodiek in a

Behind The Sims dev vlog.

“One thing to keep in mind is that Project Rene is not an MMO,” the game director clarified. “It is not this public, shared space where everything you do is always with other people.”

Project Rene, however, will have more social features compared to previous games in the franchise, including the ability to decorate a house or space cooperatively with a small group of players. “There are also really cool things you can do with others where you share and create with your friends,” said Rodiek.

The game is still years away from completion though so don’t expect to see it anytime soon.
