Torchlight Infinite Has Kicked Off Its First Closed Beta Test On Steam

XD Games has kicked off another round of closed beta testing for its upcoming mobile ARPG Torchlight Infinite, this time for the benefit of Steam users. As we previously reported, the mobile spinoff is set 200 years after Torchlight 2 and completely skips the events of Torchlight 3.

“Based on lore from the original Torchlight, players can experience a new story in an apocalyptic era where danger lurks around every corner. A team of Torchlight heroes are on a mission to prevent an invasion of darkness and protect innocents who have been forced from their homes.”

Like most games in the genre, Torchlight Infinite will send players off to complete progressively challenging dungeons while they complete quests, advance the storyline, and earn better gear and various item rewards. Players will be able to choose from six playable characters and will be able to customize them with over 230 skills spread across different talent trees. The game will be free-to-play and will offer both cosmetic and non-cosmetic microtransactions although XD promises that exclusive drops will only be obtainable through old-fashioned grinding.

The franchise itself was originally the brainchild of Echtra Games who then left Perfect World with full rights to the IP when they were acquired by Zynga in March 2021. Perfect World later transferred the IP to XD Games who is now in charge of developing and creating the mobile game.

Torchlight Infinite will be launching into open beta this October on PC via Steam, and on Android and iOS.
