Two Teams Are Trying To Bring Back Hellgate: London

Hellgate: London is a game that I'm quite fond of. I played the dungeon-crawling shooter in the Friends and Family Alpha, bought it and played for a while during its time as a subscription retail game, and played again when it was brought back by HanbitSoft as Hellgate Resurrection, although I wasn't entirely fond of the business model at the time. There hasn't quite been another game like it and perhaps that is why there are two independent teams that are currently trying to bring back the spirit of Hellgate: London.

The first team is working on a project called "Hellgate: Revival." Hellgate: Revival is a direct resurrection of Hellgate: London's multiplayer component—a private server. The team recently released a video of a multiplayer test it ran, which you can find embedded below. It seems to be coming along quite well.

The second team is working on a spiritual successor to Hellgate: London entitled "Hellrift." Built on Unreal Engine 4, Hellrift is currently in active development. The Hellrift team has released a bit of concept art, some screenshots of test scenes, and the first iteration of one of the UI for one of the game's classes, but not much progress has been made as of yet. You can find more information about Hellrift on the game's Facebook page.

I'm quite excited to see where both projects go and I will almost certainly be playing Hellgate: Revival when it opens to the public.
