World Of Antra Enters Its Gamma Year

worldofantra

World of Antra has been around for quite some time. According to its listing on MUD Connector, it was originally designed as a MUD back in the '90s. Since then, it has taken on various forms, eventually landing on its current Torque 3D-powered incarnation. The current incarnation entered Alpha early last year, ultimately spending nine months in Alpha and three months in Beta. Then, at the turn of the new year, World of Antra entered Gamma, opening its doors to all prospective players for the first time.

But you're probably wondering what "Gamma" even means. The developers are calling 2016 Gamma Year or "the year we make content." World of Antra is, for all intents and purposes, a finished MMORPG—functionally. Shortly before they intended to launch the game, the developers decided that the game did not have enough content yet. Thus, this year, they will be adding new content every two weeks.

As for the game, World of Antra is a tab-targeting MMORPG. It features fourteen playable races, most of which are quite human-looking—unfortunately, there is no character customization. Update: A full list of features can be found here.

I took a quick look at the game myself. My first impression upon loading it up was that it felt distinctly more inspired by MUDs than modern MMORPGs. Rather than choosing a class, players are given several stats that they can distribute 50 stat points to. They are then dropped into the starting zone with no quests, tasked with wandering the world as they see fit.

It's a game that evidently comes from another era of online gaming. It might be a nice change of pace in the long run. In the meantime, if you have ever wanted to see a world take shape around you in a game you play, now may be your chance.
