Remember that big sword that’s sticking out of Silithus in World of Warcraft? It was a pretty big thing back before Sylvannas decided to rip open the gates to the afterlife. With the wild adventures in the Shadowlands and Zereth Mortis coming to an end and dragons ready to take over, players are curious as to whether the developers plan to do anything with it or if it’ll just remain there for show.

In an interview with Forbes, Lead Narrative Designer Steve Danuser confirmed that they plan to come back to the Sword of Sargeras in a future narrative. Whether that’s in two years or ten remains is anyone’s guess.

“We have not forgotten about that sword. It still remains a symbol of the calamity that ensued in the battle against the Legion and Sargeras. And obviously in Battle for Azeroth, we saw the effects on the planet as that sword triggered the manifestation of Azerite deposits springing up throughout the world,” said Danuzer.

“While that has subsided, that sword remains a symbol,” he added. “I would say that’s something to keep an eye on and be watching for. It’s a story thread that we’ll return to when the time is right, but rest assured, we remember that the sword is there and there will be a story to tell about it and what effects it continues to have upon the world.”

In the meantime, we’ve got dragons to look forward to with the arrival of the recently-announced Dragonflight expansion.
