Overview

Infinity: Battlescape Overview

Infinity: Battlescape is a 3D science fiction MMO that simulates space warfare involving hundreds of players at once. The true-to-scale solar system features procedurally generated planets which can be visited seamlessly by your ships, bringing the game's combat from deep space to the surfaces of new and alien planets with beautiful landscapes and terrain. The game's primary goal is to destroy your foes and their infrastructure through orbital bombardment from your ships, which range from small, first-person ships that emphasize speed to massive capital ships that carry enormous weaponry. Each ship type is controlled differently, emphasizing the game's realistic, Newtonian portrayal of physics. The game's small ships feature action-oriented, twitch-based controls that emulate sci-fi dogfights, and the large ships are controlled from a third-person perspective that allows you to view the fight from a unique perspective.

Infinity: Battlescape Key Features:

  • Fight Hundreds of Players at Once – fight over one hundred players at once with the game's advanced I-Novae Engine, allowing for massive all-out warfare.
  • Seamless Interplanetary Warfare – visit the game's massive procedurally generated planets without a loading screen, and view other players from great distances.
  • Distinct Ship Types – choose between capital ships or small ships to create tactical advantages and change your playstyle, each ship boasting unique controls, weaknesses, and strengths.
  • Massive Solar System – travel across the game's true-to-scale solar system and explore its enormous, unique planets.
  • Offline Sandbox Mode – take a break from the game's intense battlefield and enter the solo sandbox mode which allows players to explore and try out different ship/weapon combinations.

Development History / Background:

Infinity: Battlescape is being developed and published by I-Novae Studios, a game developer founded in 2010. Their primary focus during their initial years was creating the I-Novae engine to support their game, Infinity, a massive space simulation game that offers a variety of gameplay options for aggressive and peaceful gamers alike. After developing a standalone game titled Infinity Combat Prototype as a way to test the game engine, the developers decided to go forward with a smaller scale game prior to taking on Infinity, titled Infinity: Battlescape, which is focused primarily on combat in a massive solar system-sized arena.

Infinity: Battlescape was crowdfunded through Kickstarter, launched on October 21, 2015 with a goal of $300,000. It hit its goal on November 18, 2015 and was funded on November 20, 2015 with a total of $339,595. The developers then decided to open an Indiegogo for the game that allows players to donate to the developers and claim perks after the Kickstarter closed, which will migrate to the game's own website in the future. The game is slated to release fully in September 2017, although many of its higher pledge tiers offered earlier dates that allowed alpha and beta access. The game was released on Steam on September 26, 2019.
