Legend Knight Review

By Toan Layne

Legend Knight is a free-to-play (F2P) fantasy 2D browser-based MMORPG developed by 7th Road and published by Proficient City. The game was officially launched in September of 2014 and can be played through the game’s official site as well as on Facebook.

The game is set in a mythical world nearly destroyed by a war between gods, demons, and dragon knights. During this war, a legendary knight sacrificed himself to seal a powerful demon and win the war. A thousand years later, the world is once again in peril and the legendary knight is reincarnated to help mankind. Players take on the role of this legendary knight and go on an epic journey to rid the land of the evil forces seeking to destroy it and regain his memory and powers in the process.

Reincarnation

Players start out by choosing from four pre-made characters—one male and one female character for each of the two classes. This is then followed by a prologue that gives players a glimpse of how powerful they were in the past life. The prologue serves as the game’s tutorial that teaches players how to move, fight, and also introduces them to other gameplay elements such as how to recruit heroes. During the tutorial players are asked to complete a variety of tasks and objectives that reward them with additional experience and gold, the game’s main currency.

Legend Knight features graphics similar to most low-budget, re-skinned MMORPG’s, which is saying that it needs a bit of work. While it’s not necessarily an eye-sore, it’s not great either. The sounds are okay but seem generic and can be a bit high-pitched at times. I actually turned it off a few seconds into the game. The interface is also cluttered with numerous buttons taking up half of the screen.

Questing and Combat

Like most MMORPGs, Legend Knight relies on quests to move the story along while also getting the player from one area to the next. The game features an auto-path system that takes players to the next quest with a simple click of a button. Quests are also purely kill quests, and once accepted, will automatically transport players to an instanced combat area. Combat is turn-based and requires players to choose an ability or skill to use within a specified time limit. The skills and abilities a player can use are determined by the amount of accumulated Rage. Rage can be earned by spamming the basic attack skill or by using skills with a chance to recover Rage points. The last team standing wins the match. Players must finish the match in the fewest rounds possible to gain a 3 star rating. Going over the specified round limit decreases the star rating which affects how much gold the player receives as a reward. Experience points earned, however, remain the same. Aside from the auto-path system, the game also features an auto-combat system which allows players to sit back and relax as they’re characters do all the dirty work.

Players can also recruit heroes using Gold to help them in combat. Heroes can take on the role of tanks, damagers, and support. Players can also arrange their party’s positions however they see fit. Heroes at the front are more likely to sustain damage than those positioned at the rear of the party. Keeping this in mind when creating a party is necesarry to secure victory.

Dungeon Raids

Legend Knight’s world is divided into five continents each with its own dungeon. Each continent, however, has specific level requirements. The bosses that players can fight in each continent are also determined by the player’s level. Higher levels unlock tougher boss stages. Like normal combat, players are also given star ratings. Finishing the boss with a 3 star rating gives players 3 chances to draw a random card which determines their rewards. Finishing with 2 stars gives the player 2 chances, and so on. The cards reward players with Minerals that they can exchange for equipment or items used for upgrading equipment.

Tales from the Crypts

Aside from dungeons, players can also go on Crypt raids. Although unlike dungeons, crypts reward players with experience points and gold rather than minerals. While the rewards are still dependent on star ratings, Crypts lack the random card system implemented in dungeons. Players can choose from Easy, Normal, Hard, and Nightmare crypt modes. As you would have guessed, more difficult modes yield better rewards.

Jail Time

Players can challenge other players to party versus party combat to determine their Arena rankings. Winning PvP matches rewards players with Minerals, Prestige, and Gold and higher Arena rankings gives better rewards. After defeating another player, players can challenge that player again through the game’s Prison feature. Defeating the player again will make them a prisoner. Players can have up to three prisoners at a time. Interacting with prisoners rewards players with experience items that they can use to level up their party members. Keep in mind that prisoners can be rescued by other players. Defeat them again to drag them back to jail.

The Final Verdict - Fair

Legend Knight is a game that forces you to consider production-line MMORPGs right from the start. They’re the same games wrapped in different packaging. The game plays itself which defeats the purpose of playing a game in the first place and with a cluttered interface, low-quality graphics, as well as audio that sounds better turned off, players are better off steering clear and trying out other high-budget free-to-play MMORPGs. Those looking for an automated experience however, may find something to like in Legend Knight.
