Zems is a free-to-play card game/tactical strategy game hybrid created by Impulse Limited. Create a deck from over 200 cards and face off against other players. Gameplay takes place on a hex grid where players place units, change the weather, and use abilities on their turn. Changes in weather conditions can affect players' units. For example, if a tile a unit is standing on is wet due to rain and that tile, or an adjacent wet tile is struck by lightning, the unit will take damage. Each player has a hero, with their own special ability, that they must defend. Heroes can roam the map and attack enemies just as any other unit. Players can choose the hero they want to use and build their deck around it. Ranked, unranked, and draft modes are all available.

Development History / Background:
Zems developed by American studio Impulse Limited. It was first unveiled in 2011, after which regular updates were posted on Facebook and Impulse's official blog. The game originally took place on a square grid. It was announced on June 10, 2014 that the grid would be changing to a hex-based format. On November 14, 2015, Zems entered Open Alpha. A day later, on November 15, 2015, a Kickstarter campaign launched with a $40,000 goal. A Greenlight page was launched alongside the Kickstarter. The Kickstarter failed on December 24, 2015, earning only $6,224 and the Alpha was taken down shortly after. Impulse later launched a Patreon campaign to support the game's development on January 7, 2016. On January 8, 2016, Zems was greenlit.
