CCP Games Announces Mobile Game Inspired By EVE Online

CCP Games is working on a mobile game! The Iclandic studio behind EVE Online has partnered with Finnish studio PlayRaven for a new project currently known as Project Aurora.

PlayRaven has some experience in the mobile realm, they're the studio behind mobile strategy games Winterstate and Spymaster. According to an interview with GamesBeat, Project Aurora is "essentially a condensed EVE Online experience on a mobile device that players can take with them wherever tehy go, but have meaningful adventures in regardless of how muhc time they put in at any one point." (CCP producer Sam Barton)

While this will be CCP's first mobile MMORPG, they do have some prior mobile experience. Eve Portal acts as a companion app for EVE Online, and Gunjack is an arcade shooter originally developed for the Samsung Gear VR.

Project Aurora will offer a player-driven, sci-fi themed sandbox for players to explore. Players will have to form corporations and battle for control over scarce resources scattered across star sectors. Mysterious relics offer bits of lore and grant access to new parts of the galaxy. There will be no set end-game goal, instead its up to players to decide what they want to accomplish in the game.

How CCP and PlayRaven will pull of a game that promises to be both a sandbox PvP and casual friendly remains to be seen. There's no official website up yet, but expect one in the days ahead!

For years and years we have wanted to bring the EVE Universe to mobile devices in a way that is tailored to the platform and EVE fans. We wanted to find a partner who is passionate about EVE, has a track record of producing high quality and deep mobile games and is capable of creating completely new experiences on mobile. PlayRaven fit the bill perfectly.
