The company was founded in 2003 by CEO Alexander Rösner and former CEO Klaas Kersting. Kersting has since moved on to found Flaregames, a mobile game developer and publisher, in 2011. The company was initially known as Gameforge before changing their name to Gameforge AG after being converted to an incorporated company in September 2006. They have established their corporate headquarters in Karlsruhe, Germany with offices in North America and Europe. They have also has received numerous awards including “Most Innovative Company of the Year in Europe” in 2009, the Red Herring Award in 2012, and the Silver Award at the International Business Awards (Stevies) in the same year. Gameforge AG has more than 400 million registered users across all platforms including widely-popular games, Tera, Aion, Runes of Magic, and Special Force 2. GameForge acquired Frogster Interactive, back in August 2010, to get a hold of the Runes of Magic franchise.
