DUST 514—CCP's PS3-exclusive first-person shooter set in EVE's New Eden—will be shutting down on May 30th. Due to the shut down, the game's previously announced 1.3 update will not be launching. The game will remain free-to-play until the servers go offline, but further purchases have been disabled.

The team at CCP Shanghai has already moved on to another project. They have been prototyping a "first-person shooter for PC with the goal of building a great FPS set in [their] sci-fi universe of New Eden." The new game is being built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 4 "while harnessing all [their] learnings from DUST 514." The new FPS is still very early in development, but they "feel like they're on the right track" and will be able to talk about the game at EVE Fanfest this April 21st.

DUST 514 was an ambitious idea that was ultimately met with moderate reception at launch. Unprecedented levels of interaction between DUST and EVE were promised, but not realized as described. Many also felt that launching as a PS3 exclusive was a bad move, as all of EVE's fanbase resided on PC. With the new Unreal Engine 4 FPS, it seems that CCP has taken that to heart. However, not everyone is happy. Some reactions to the news seem to be disappointed that console players are being left in the proverbial dust.

As for specific details on the new project, we will have to wait until April 21st. Until then, all we know is that this is a new, separate project. Characters will not transfer, but DUST 514 players will be given "tiered recognition rewards."
