Hearthstone Introducing Two New Play Formats This Spring

Blizzard announced today that two new "play formats" are coming to their Warcraft-themed card game Hearthstone later this spring. The two new formats are called Standard and Wild. The goal with these formats is to "keep the game fresh, exciting, and accessible for years to come."

The Standard format will be the new format used in Play mode. It will be available in "Friendly Challenges, Ranked, and Casual play." Standard will be played using decks built from cards released this year and last. Blizzard claims that the Standard format will feature a "more dynamic and balanced metagame." They also claim that this format will help future card releases have "more impact." Due to this, Standard will be the format used in the Hearthstone Championship Tour starting this year.

The Wild format will be "the Hearthstone you already know." They are calling the format Wild because "anything can happen." Any card you own can be used in a Wild deck. Wild decks can be used to complete quests, climb the ladder, "earn Legend rank," and more.

As an added bonus, the Collection Manager is changing slightly. Players that unlock all nine heroes will unlock nine more deck slots, allowing for a total of 18 deck slots.
