Marvel Heroes is starting out the 2016 calendar year strong with its largest content update since launch. This update marks the beginning of Marvel Heroes 2016 and brings with it several major features including official controller support, leaderboards, and an official Mac client, fresh out of beta.

A new story chapter, "Secret Invasion," challenges players to make careful decisions about who they decide to trust. An adaptation of the 2008 comic book event of the same name, Secret Invasion pits players against "shape-shifting Skrull," Super-Skrull, and even alien versions of the game's heroes.

Various character updates have been slowly making their way into the game. Black Cat—voiced by Jennifer Hale—has been made Marvel Heroes' 55th playable character. Captain America, Black Widow, and Jean Grey have been updated to match "the more realistic visual standards of newer characters." Deadpool has been revamped with new animations, new effects, and nine new moves.

Gazillion's Studio Director Jeff Lind had this to say about the update: "When we moved from Marvel Heroes to Marvel Heroes 2015, it was to showcase just how much the game had improved since its launch – but it’s had another year and a half of improvements since then, and with today’s launch of Marvel Heroes 2016, the newest additions make it even better. What we’re launching today is just the beginning of what will be the biggest year yet for the game."
