Unlike many early access games that transition to full release with an Update 1.0, the Camelot Unchained developer Unchained Entertainment has opted to keep Final Stand: Ragnarok in early access for now. The side project, however, continues to receive updates and infusions of new content as promised.

Case in point is Update 1.2 which dropped over the weekend, introducing a fresh champion, a revamped progression system, and an exciting new missions game mode.

The new melee champion, Carthalon the Gladiator, brings a mix of damage and healing to the table. Wielding dual blades, he builds up fervor with each swing, which can then be used to heal allies or enhance his own combat abilities. This versatile combat style adds a new layer of strategy for players looking to shake up their gameplay.

The revamped progression system now allows players to further customize their characters through a new perk tree. Players can allocate points to gain various perks, tailoring their champions to fit their preferred play style. The good news is that respecs are free so you can experiment all you want and try out different builds until you find the perfect one for you.

In addition to the new champion, Update 1.2 also added the new missions game mode that’s designed for smaller, more focused parties. This mode promises a more intense, repeatable experience, but with the game still struggling to maintain a substantial player base, finding a party to take on the challenge with might prove difficult.

SteamDB reports a 24-hour peak of just 4 players as of this writing, although the playerbase did pick up a bit prior to Update 1.2’s release, peaking at a whopping 35 players, just 6 players shy of its all-time peak of 41 concurrent players.

Meanwhile, Final Stand: Ragnarok continues to receive Mixed Reviews on Steam which obviously isn’t helping draw in the crowd. While Update 1.2 doesn’t seem to be a turning point for the game, it’s clear that Unchained Entertainment isn’t giving up on it just yet. Only time will tell how long they plan to remain in the fight.
