Bungie Is Remaking Classic 90s Shooter Marathon Into A New PvP Extraction Shooter

Bungie has revealed its plans to revive Marathon, a sci-fi first-person shooter that the studio launched on Mac way back in 1994. The studio will be putting a unique spin on the upcoming game and will be adapting it for more modern tastes with the introduction of extraction shooter mechanics. Players will take on the role of cybernetic mercenaries called Runners searching for artifacts on an alien planet.

The studio offers insight into its goals and vision for the Marathon remake-slash-spinoff in a new developer video which you’ll find embedded down below. Leveraging the success of the Halo and Destiny franchises, Bungie promises an immersive narrative experience where players will be an integral part of the story.
