Miitomo Pre-Registration Opens, Details Unveiled

miitomo

Nintendo's first smart device app, Miitomo, is launching in March. In order to prepare for the imminent launch, a new mini-site has appeared where you can pre-register for the upcoming app. Pre-registering will grant users Platinum Points for My Nintendo rewards, the Club Nintendo replacement that is launching alongside Miitomo next month.

Miitomo is part of Nintendo's "free-to-start" line of games. They are calling it a "social experience" in which you create a Mii and use it to interact with friends "in a whole new way." Much like on Wii U, players can take a photo with the device's camera that will be turned into a Mii or they can create one from scratch. Alternatively, Miis can be imported from a Wii U or 3DS system through the use of a QR code.

Friends can be added in person or via Facebook or Twitter. Once you've added some friends, Miitomo will prompt you with some questions. The way Nintendo describes it is that the app uses conversations and discussions as "a form of play." Your answers are shared with friends and the intention is to spark "interesting conversations" in which you "[discover] surprise facts about your friends that you never knew before." Other users can "heart" various posts, as well as commenting with text and pictures. Your Mii will also visit others on your friends list on its own.

Users will also be able to earn "Miitomo coins" through an unspecified means of using the app or as an in-app purchase. These coins can be used to purchase various items of clothing and accessories.

The app will also feature the "Miifoto" system that allows users to pose their Mii, use stamps, and even put their Mii in real-world photos that they have taken. In addition to being posted on Miitomo, Miifotos can be shared via Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
