During last year’s PlayStation Showcase, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic developer Aspyr Media announced that it was remaking the nearly-20-year-old game. The studio, however, has hit a massive roadblock in the game’s development and has been delayed indefinitely.

According to Bloomberg, Aspyr submitted a vertical slice of the remake, basically a playable demo with all the intended features, for Lucasfilm and Sony executives’ consideration. Bloomberg’s sources reported that Aspyr’s top brass wasn’t happy with the state of the game and the amount of time and resources that had been put into it and subsequently fired Art Director Jason Minor and Design Director Brad Prince the following week, apparently to the surprise of the latter.

“Things can change very fast in a day. I am no longer working at Aspyr and looking for work,” wrote Prince on his LinkedIn page.

The sources also reported concerns about the KOTOR remake’s release timeline which was internally set for the end of the year although the developers now believe that a 2025 launch would be more realistic. The remake’s fate is still unclear but there’s the possibility that it could be snatched up by a different studio as Aspyr is currently looking for new projects.
