The Day Before Videos Yanked From YouTube, Dev Say They’ll Fight The Copyright Complaint

The Day Before has gone into a downward spiral over the past few weeks following a trademark dispute and development delays. The open world post-apocalyptic survival MMO was yanked from Steam’s digital shelves late last month after a calendar app developer filed a copyright complaint over the game’s title which developer Studio Fntastic apparently failed to file a trademark for.

The studio would later announce that it was delaying the game’s release to November due to the copyright issue but admitted shortly after that it was planning to delay the game anyway for further development and polish. Previously released trailers and gameplay footage of the upcoming title were also pulled from Steam and YouTube due to copyright complaints.

The latest update is that Studio Fntastic is planning to take the calendar app developer to court over the matter, noting that the calendar app has nothing to do with the games category and that the developer had planned to steal their title ever since it was first announced in 2021.

“We’ll fight. Power is in the truth,” tweeted the studio.

Whether Studio Fntastic can win the copyright battle is up in the air though considering that the opposing party has records to prove that it clearly filed for a trademark before the team could get to it. There’s also a chance that the calendar app developer might be willing to sell the title as the team says that they’ve been contacted by the other party to discuss “something.”

Regardless of whether they win the copyright battle or not, we won’t be seeing the title for at least several months so all we can do now is sit back and enjoy the drama as it unfolds.
