Wayfinder’s Transfer To Airship Syndicate Has Thrown A Wrench In Its Development Timeline

Since Wayfinder launched into early access last year, it’s received a constant stream of updates as Airship Syndicate dug in to address post-launch issues and player feedback. That made it all the more noticeable when the updates stopped rolling in for the multiplayer RPG in February which also marked the studio’s last communication with its playerbase.

Players are naturally starting to get concerned, especially since Airship Syndicate parted ways with Digital Extremes a few months before the updates dried up. The good news is that the game is still alive according to a state of the game post on Discord and the studio has just been busy with getting the game and the IP transferred over from Digital Extremes.

“We are currently working through the transition of service from DE to Airship. As you can imagine, this is a significant undertaking, and it directly affects aspects such as release dates and content—your primary concerns, which we fully acknowledge,” Airship Syndicate said. “We are very keen to share information with our players, but at the moment, we lack concrete details to provide. Sharing premature information could lead to further disappointment and raise questions that we, frankly, do not have the answers to just yet.”

The post further explains that the process of transferring player data, login servers, customer support services, and the rights to the IP itself has effectively thrown a wrench into Wayfinder’s development, but that Digital Extremes isn’t to blame. “[…] Stuff takes time the second lawyers are involved,” the studio explained.

Airship Syndicate also defended the lack of update previews and trailers, saying that they’ll only result in a bad experience for players without a release timeline to accompany them since they don’t even have a timeline for when the transition will be completed.

“I know that you guys want us to talk about the future and we’ll be able to do that soon. I know we’ve been quiet for a while, and we hope to return to talking to everyone soon. Wayfinder is not going away. I realize those are just words right now but please be patient with us while we continue to work through the transition,” the developers said.

Whether the transfer will also affect the game’s early 2024 Version 1.0 release window is still unclear.
