Ark: Survival Evolved - 10 Ways The Developers Are Improving Their Game

1. Adding New Mechanics

Grappling hooks, breeding, and carrying your friend around in a prehistoric kangaroo pouch (that he can fire a machine gun out of) are just a few of the awesome mechanics the developers have been pumping into the game. Wildcard studios has done a great job at keeping the game fresh You can leave for a couple weeks and come back to a whole new meta of gameplay.. Ark is definitely not guilty of taking the money and running like most greenlight/pre-release games.

2. BattlEye Anti Hacking

Hacking has been a big problem in Ark. Every server I’ve played on had at least 2 or 3 known aimbotters/esp users. As of the implementation of BattlEye I have not seen a single instance of hacking on official servers. Most known hackers straight up quit the day it was released. It’s a huge relief to those that spend hundreds of hours playing this game honestly.

3. Making Players Work Together

Players learn early on that going alone on the island is rough. The anti-social survivors don’t make it far. The best way to get experience, gear, and people who live in Europe to watch your stuff so you can sleep at night is teamwork. But don’t be fooled. It’s a double-edged sword, as the more you trust a tribemate the more damage he can do.

4. Optimization

If you tried playing the game several months ago you won’t believe the progress that the developers have made. The increase in frame rate and decrease in server lag has been a welcome addition to the near weekly updates.

5. Dinosaur Diversity

I first started playing when they released titanomyrma (giant ant). Since then the number of dinos in the game have grown exponentially. By not sticking to one era in history, the developers have opened the door to a world filled with crowd favorites that never would have existed side by side. Each dinosaur they release comes with a new interesting mechanic. There’s always a reason to farm up some narcotics and go taming.

6. Balancing gameplay styles

With the ability to specialize your character players are able to fulfill multiple roles. You can tank. You can DPS. You can craft. My favorite is putting points in oxygen and speed. There’s nothing like rolling up on someone from the ocean, clubbing them, and returning to the depths with all their loot. Some builds are more single player oriented with a focus on direct PvP. Other builds rely on dinosaurs to do your damage and may be designed for sustainability, without eating or resilience to cold.

7. Tribe alliances

This recently added feature is a godsend to coalitions of small tribes that are trying to bring down a large alpha tribe. By allowing players of allied tribes to see your name plate, not be shot by turrets, and share a chat, the playing field is leveled. There seems to be a lot less accidental death and a lot less spam messages in global chat.

8. Ridiculous character creator

The first thing you see when you select your server is your character creation screen. At first glance, it appears to be quite average. But after dragging one slider you realize what a gem you’ve found. Remember the character creator in Oblivion? This is that x10. The human’s on this island are more terrifying than the dinosaurs.

9. Adding multiple biomes

The snow and swamp update was awesome. Players that may have become bored of being on a tropical island were granted new environments to explore with new creatures to see. When the game first came out I never imagined I could one day club baby penguins on icebergs in the frigid north.

10. In-game voice chat that actually works

This may just be a remnant of the earlier gaming generation, but I am thoroughly impressed with the ingame voice chat. It simply works, and has worked for as long as I’ve played the game. The game even has radios you can set to certain frequencies to keep the immersion going. I’ve also experienced my fair share of spying on conversations while sneaking around outside someone’s walls.

Hi, my name is Jacob and I'm a gaming addict. First games I played were Castle Wolfenstein, DESCENT, and Sesame Street A-B-C. I've recently gotten into early access survival games, but generally stick to the polished mainstream powerhouses like League of Legends and World of Warcraft
