Baldur’s Gate 3 Launching Early On PC But The PS5 Version Will Be Delayed
Larian Studios is breaking the mold of game delays this year as it announces its plans to launch Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC on August 3rd. That’s four weeks earlier than the original schedule. The PlayStation 5 version, however, will be delayed by one week and will be launching on September 6th.
“We’ve always been a studio that aims to release on as many platforms as possible, in order of readiness,” the studio said. “We’ve also aimed for the highest possible quality on every platform we’ve released on.”
According to the studio, they’ve now reached the point where the game is comfortably hitting 60 fps on PlayStation 5. This is considering how massive the scope of the game is. Baldur’s Gate 3 promises over 170 hours of in-game cinematics, twice the length of the entire Game of Thrones series. It will also apparently feature three times the dialogue of all three of The Lord of the Rings novels altogether.
“It is a massive, expansive game that truly brings D&D to life, with multiplayer and split-screen co-op, and at a scale that’s roughly 4 times that of our previous game, Divinity: Original Sin 2,” touts Larian. “Reaching a technical bar that matches our design ambitions felt like the right move, while holding back the PC version when we knew we’d be ready felt like the wrong move in such a busy launch period.”
Alongside this news, the game's level cap is being raised from 10 to 12, and players will have the opportunity to play as Dragonborn, Half-Orc, and Monk characters right from the start. The game's extensive range of races, subraces, and classes can be overwhelming though, but the team has provided infographics to help you navigate through them.
