Diablo 4 Barbarian Build Literally Breaks The Game With “Infinity” Damage

In the world of Diablo 4, damage numbers are king. Or at least, they used to be—until one Barbarian player discovered a bug so powerful, the game couldn’t even keep up. Say goodbye to damage calculations, because players have just achieved infinity damage.

The bug, first uncovered on the public test realm (PTR) for the upcoming Diablo 4 expansion Vessel of Hatred, has turned Barbarians into literal wrecking balls. It’s not about dishing out 5- or 6-digit crits anymore; this bug takes the numbers into Elden Ring meme territory—so much so that the game simply gave up. Instead of actual numbers, players like Diablo 4 streamer Rob2628 are seeing infinity symbols. The moment it happened, Rob humorously exclaimed, “We did it, no more numbers!”

Apparently, the build takes advantage of the Barbarian’s thorns passive skill—a damage reflection ability that allows players to deal damage back when they’re hit. The bug in question is only possible on Blizzard’s test server but it hinges on a Barbarian stacking over 30 bonus ranks on the thorns passive. That’s not easy, by the way—unless you’re lucky enough to score rare armor upgrades or, as in this case, have access to unlimited crafting materials on the PTR.

The beauty—or chaos—of this build is how it scales. With more than 30 ranks of thorns, damage output spirals out of control. By using the whirlwind skill, which triggers thorns damage repeatedly as it spins, the build cranks out endless stacks of reflected damage until the game’s math engine just throws in the towel. The result? Barbarians become walking demolition machines, mowing down bosses and elite enemies from the hardest dungeons with ease as demonstrated by Rob2628 during one of his streams.

Of course, the bug isn’t expected to make it to live servers and will no doubt be patched out when Vessel of Hatred drops on October 8.

You’ve got roughly one more day to try it out on the Diablo 4 PTR. After that, we’ll see if this build lives on in the expansion or if Blizzard hits it with the nerf hammer. Either way, the memory of infinity damage is sure to leave a mark. You can take a look at it yourself in the video below.
